On Simplicity

Simple is beautiful. Living simply is quite easy. It’s made to seem difficult because we are surrounded by the noise of modern-day expectations.

Simple. It’s easy to embellish, to add frills & ruffles & pontificate & speak in managerial terms. What is difficult is to break things down to the essentials, to simplify. Simple is beautiful. Living simply is quite easy. It’s made to seem difficult because we are surrounded by the noise of modern-day expectations.

The definitions of participating in life have changed. It is no longer enough to work efficiently, you need to be available 24/7 on your smartphone & be productive beyond the hours at office. It is no longer enough to connect with your family over the dinner table, you are expected to go out and post pictures on social media for it to be acknowledged. It is no longer enough to watch a movie at home with your partner cozying under a blanket, you now need to post #relationshipgoals for your relationship to be legitimate.

When did life become an artifice? When did we start looking for acknowledgement and likes from near strangers to feel good about our lives? It’s time to take charge of our lives again. Screw social media. Screw productivity. Focus on simplicity. Simplify your life. Pare down to the bare necessities. Let go of these weird expectations. Let go of all the junk that you have in your rooms and life. You will see, that all you need is already there.
